Zuma Deluxe

Many puzzle games have found their way to XBLA, and Zuma is one of them. This is a popular online puzzle title that involves the concept of matching colored balls as they roll through the track. The game allows you to shoot them in any direction, in order to create combos to make them disappear. This game concept transfers flawlessly to the Xbox 360 mapping the direction of the frog shooting device to the right thumbstick, and the shooting of the balls to a button. This creates a fast paced puzzle game full of different challenges. The game allows you to play in a few different modes, Adventure mode or Gauntlet mode.  The Adventure mode is sort of the career mode of the game, putting you through the different stages in the game to progress higher and higher unlocking more stages as you pass different levels. Gauntlet is a sort of survival mode, allowing you to play on any passed level, for as long as possible, until the first ball falls down the hole. These two modes provide quite a bit of fun as the Adventure mode is quite challenging and lengthy, and the Gauntlet mode can never really get old.

The game includes all of the gameplay features found in the online versions. There are colored balls in various hues, and you must match them up, hopefully creating combos of at least three or more in order to remove them from the track. You can even set up combos to come together after you have completed your own combo. These of course, will earn you more points. Coins randomly appear on the game board, and if you hit them with your own ball, you will get more points and bump up your meter, putting an end to the stream of balls sooner.  Some balls have special powers such as exploding, pausing the stream or even reversing it. These are extremely helpful and can mean the difference between success and failure. They only last for a limited amount of time though, so be sure to keep an eye out for them.

The game in clues the usual 200 achievement points that range from tasks such as collecting 100 coins or completing a certain temple in the adventure mode. This game is very addictive like many other XBLA titles, and brings a class online puzzle game to the Xbox 360. The visuals are vivid and the detail is quite good for the size of the game. The music helps you to understand your current game progress, but you are also able to listen to your own tunes from the guide. This game is a great puzzle game for those looking for a new XBLA title, and for the small price, it is well worth it. Zuma Deluxe is one of the first great puzzle titles available on the XBLA.
